Wisborough Green Referendum

On Thursday 5 May 2016, there was a referendum on a neighbourhood development plan in the Wisborough Green Parish area.

Statement from the Counting Officer regarding a clerical error for this election:

'It has come to my attention that a clerical error has occurred in relation to the Wisborough Green Neighbourhood Plan referendum. The question for electors contained in the information for voters statement and the notice of referendum is as follows:

Do you want Chichester District Council to use the neighbourhood plan for Wisborough Green Parish to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?

However, since part of the proposed Neighbourhood Plan area lies within the boundary of the South Downs National Park, the questions should have included reference to the Park Authority as well as the District Council.

As the Counting Officer responsible for this election, I am required to ensure that elections are carried out properly, to ensure that the performance standards of the Electoral Commission are carried out effectively for this election and are carried out to the standards of relevant guidance. This includes powers to correct clerical errors under the Representation of the People Act 1983, as amended. I have therefore decided to write to all residents in the Wisborough Green Parish to advise them that their votes will be treated as votes towards the following question:

Do you want Chichester District Council and the South Downs National Park Authority to use the neighbourhood plan for Wisborough Green Parish to help them decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?'
