Book a Taxi Knowledge Test
We have identified an issue with the online booking system and are currently working to resolve it. This issue only relates to customers who have existing taxi knowledge test bookings, and will not allow you log in. Once the issue has been resolved we will notify all existing customers by email. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Passing the test will demonstrate that the applicant has a suitable level of knowledge to provide a professional and safe service to customers.
The test covers:
- A basic understanding of the Highway Code
- hackney carriage and private hire legislation
- council policy
- knowledge of the local area
Test fees
The test costs is £57.47, and a retest is £27.85

Our testing location is based at Chichester District Council, East Pallant House, Chichester, West Sussex PO19 1TY.

Taxi Knowledge Test rules
- Do not engage in unfair or dishonest practice during the test: You will be disqualified.
- Do not have notes or technological/ web-enabled devices with you in the exam room. You must switch off all such devices, and leave them on your table in clear view, otherwise you will be disqualified.
- Do not talk to, try to communicate with, nor disturb other candidates once the test has started: You will be disqualified.
- Do raise your hand immediately if you experience computer problems.
- Do have your DVLA Driving Licence with you and enter your DVLA Driver Number carefully. If you make an error, in the future the system will not recognise you if you need to resit only part of the test, and you will need to take it all again.
- Do check your answers before clicking to finish the test: It is not possible afterwards.
- Do raise your hand when you have finished the test: The invigilator will check you have finished, then escort you from the room.
- If you wish to leave the room before finishing the test, you will not be allowed to return and you will automatically fail.
- If the Fire Alarm sounds, the invigilator will direct you to the nearest exit and escort you to the council's building clearance control point. You must follow any instructions given.
