Modern slavery transparency statement

Modern slavery is a crime. It involves the illegal exploitation of people for personal or commercial gain, and is often perpetrated by organised criminal gangs.

Modern slavery includes:

  • human trafficking;
  • domestic servitude;
  • forced labour; and
  • criminality and sexual exploitation.

This council acknowledges its duty to notify the Secretary of State of suspected victims of slavery or human trafficking.

This council is committed to:

  • preventing; and
  • taking action against identified slavery and human trafficking in its corporate activities. This also includes its supply chains and the wider community.

By adopting this modern slavery transparency statement, the council is making a clear commitment regarding its determination to tackle modern slavery.

This statement is for the financial year starting 1 April 2021. We have published this to meet the requirements of Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. We will review the statement annually.
