Filling in your application

Application summary

We encourage all applicants to use our online application form (opens new window). This is the easiest way to submit your information to the council. All information submitted through the form will go through to the interviewing managers for assessing.

Please take your time to consider the information which you think might be most useful to us in assessing your application. Please fill in every section of the form.

You will be asked to provide supporting information on your suitability for the role that you are applying for. You should therefore read the job profile and supporting documentation before applying. This is to ensure that you meet the essential criteria as shown. The decision to shortlist is based on the information you provide in your form.

If you have a current CV, which includes the information required for the Educational, Qualifications, Training and Employment sections of the form, you can submit this with your application rather then complete all the boxes. However, please check your CV:

  • fully reflects your skills and qualities;
  • takes into account the requirements of the job; and,
  • provides full employment history of the last 3 years with details of any gaps in employment. Please also include details of any gaps in your history including educational. Training or other gaps.

Reservists - the council is supportive of membership of the Armed Forces Reserves and if you are a Reservist this would never be a bar to employment with us.  However you do not have to declare this in your job application form or CV if you do not wish to.  All staff who are Reservists will be released for active duty if called up.  Our wider commitment to the local armed forces community is set out in the The Armed Forces Covenant.

References

We ask you to provide details of two referees and we expect one of these to be your current or most recent employer if applicable to you.  We normally make conditional offers of employment that are subject to us receiving two satisfactory references for you.

Recruitment monitoring

At the end of the application form, you will find a Recruitment Monitoring form which we would also ask you to complete and return to the HR Section. The form is confidential and used for monitoring purposes only. The form is kept separately from your application form

It helps us to make sure our policies are applied effectively. The information you have provided will be handled and processed in line with the Data Protection Act 1998. If you are appointed, the information will form part of your personnel record. It may be used by the council for business purposes, including the prevention and detection of fraud.

Return of the application form

Please check to ensure that you have completed all sections of the application form and the monitoring form and submit the form before 5.00pm on the closing date.
