Home Repair Assistance
If you own your home, have lived there for over a year, it is your main place of residence, and you are responsible for its upkeep, you may be eligible for home repairs assistance.
This funding is available if:
- You receive a means-tested benefit, Disability Living Allowance, or Personal Independence Payment, or
- Your household income is less than £20,000 a year and you have less than £16,000 in savings.
The grant can help pay for repairs that fix serious health and safety risks in your home. A member of the Housing Standards Team will assess whether the works are eligible.
You could get:
- Up to £30,000 for a permanent home.
- Up to £5,000 for a residential park home.

Energy efficiency help
The Government and energy companies, along with a number of organisations, provide grants or discounts to help residents. The schemes on offer regularly change. If you are interested in finding out what is currently available please visit West Sussex Energy (opens new window).
Alternatively you may prefer to discuss your property needs with our delivery partner, Chichester and Arun Citizens Advice (opens new window) who will be able to provide advice and support you in making an application if required.
Chichester Warm Homes Initiative
Homeowners and landlords who rent to tenants on a low income can apply for funding to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions, if the property has a fuel poverty rating of F or G.
Available improvements include:
- Whole-house efficient heating systems
- Thermal insulation
- Boiler repairs
- Hot water tank repairs or replacements
- Window repairs or replacements
To qualify, the applicant (tenant or homeowner) must:
- Receive a means-tested benefit, Disability Living Allowance, or Personal Independence Payment; or,
- Have a household income under £25,000 a year and less than £16,000 in savings.
Funding is available up to:
- £10,000 per property
- £25,000 in areas where there is no access to gas
The total cost of the work will be recorded as a local land charge for homeowners and landlords and must be repaid if the property is sold. For landlords, the grant is not repayable if the property is not sold and remains tenanted for at least 5 years.

Empty Homes Assistance
Landlords who own a property that has been empty for at least 12 months can apply for Empty Homes Assistance.
The scheme offers:
- 100% funding for the cost of works needed to bring the property up to the Council's Accreditation Standard
- Up to £10,000 in funding over a ten-year period
To qualify, the landlord must keep a legal interest in the property for 10 years. If the property is sold within 10 years of the approved works being completed, the full amount of funding must be repaid.
To get started, landlords should contact the Housing Standards Team to arrange a property inspection. After the visit, a list of eligible works will be provided to help landlords gather quotes.
Landlords must submit:
- Two quotes for each listed item.
- A completed application form.
