Midhurst fire update from South Downs National Park Authority (24 May)
Scaffolding work begins to shore up fire-damaged buildings
Specially designed scaffolding will begin to be put in place tomorrow (25 May) to shore up the fire-damaged listed buildings in Midhurst.
The support scaffolding will be installed to support the facades of both listed buildings, as well as to the flank wall of the Angel Inn. A number of chimneys also have to be demolished or removed down to a safe height as they are at risk of uncontrolled collapse.
The seven-week programme (from 15 May) is on track, and we will continue to provide weekly updates on progress. Once the work is completed, we will hand over to West Sussex County Council, as the Highways Authority, to reopen the road.
The South Downs National Park Authority has produced FAQs specifically around the shoring up work. (opens new window)
The multi-agency recovery group has created detailed , prepared by Chichester District Council, which include information about business support and highways issues.
