There is no right of appeal to the premium amount applied. If you believe your property has been placed in the wrong class, second/holiday home (furnished), empty (unfurnished) or refused an exception, and as a result of being placed in the wrong class or refused an exception, should not receive the premium, then you can appeal this.
In the first instance you should appeal to Chichester District Council, in writing (Taxation Section, Chichester District Council, East Pallant House, Chichester, West Sussex, PO19 1TY), or by email (taxation@chichester.gov.uk). If the decision remains unchanged after the appeal, or, you do not receive a decision within two months then you can appeal direct to the Valuation Tribunal Service for England.
If you would like to appeal the class of the property, please complete the below form and provide details as to why you think the property is classed incorrectly as a second/holiday home (furnished), empty (unfurnished) or refused an exception. You should also specify which class you believe it should be classed as (second furnished home, empty unfurnished main residence, or exception class). Please provide as much information as possible and any evidence that may support your appeal.
The council has two months to let you know its decision, from the date your appeal is received.
If your appeal is refused, or if you do not receive a decision notice within two months, you can appeal directly to the independent Valuation Tribunal Service.
