An unoccupied and substantially unfurnished property which requires major repair works to render it habitable or that is undergoing structural alteration can receive a 100% discount on the council tax for up to 12 months. However from 1 April 2017 the discount awarded to any qualifying property is 0%. The rate of discount is agreed by the members of Chichester District Council, prior to each financial year. The discount will stop six months after the works are substantially complete and you should therefore ensure you notify the council tax department when this is the case.
(Refurbishment works such as a new kitchen or new bathroom do not qualify).
