Local interest

  • The village of Cocking lies in the shadow of Cocking Down and Linch Down, two of the highest points on the Sussex Downs.
  • The Cowdray Estate is the main landowner in Cocking.  Look out for their yellow paintwork on the estate cottages in the village.
  • In 2006, Cocking's millennium memorial, the Cocking History Column, won the Sussex Heritage Trust, Public and Community award. 
  • Local villager and sculptor, Philip Jackson designed the column and Cocking's residents engraved the spiral of 48 bronze panels commemorating Cocking's history.
