Permission to film and photograph

Introduction

The Chichester District is one of the most picturesque locations in the country. It has a unique combination of the South Downs, the historic city of Chichester, and the south coast, all within a short distance of each other.

We welcome film, television, and photographic companies who wish to film/photograph in and around the area. We are also able to provide help and assistance.

A view of Chichester

If your application is successful, we must be fully indemnified against any damages, actions, proceedings, claims, costs and expenses should any arise as a consequence of use of our land. All companies working on location in public places owned or managed by us must hold public liability insurance cover between five million pounds and ten million pounds. The exact figure will depend on the activities taking place and will be in respect of any one claim as a minimum.

As with all applications to use our land or buildings, a copy of the company's public liability insurance certificate will need to be sent to us for inspection. A risk assessment and method statement must also be submitted before consent will be granted.

A standard charge will apply for any filming taking place on our land or property. The charges are currently:

  • £500 per day; and,
  • £250 per half day.
  • There will also be an administrative fee of £150.

Additional charges will apply if our car parks are required to store trucks and equipment.

If you wish to film in an area or building owned or managed by Chichester District Council, you will need to contact the Estates Team.
