Planning - make an application

Introduction

For further detailed advice regarding making an application, please see our Planning advice and guidance pages.

If you wish to apply online, please access the Planning Portal (do not send copies in the post as this can lead to duplicate applications). If you would like to submit an application by post, select the most suitable application type for your proposed development from the menu on the left. There you will find forms which can be printed, completed and returned. Guidance on the completion of these forms and the National and Local Requirements for each application type are also provided. Please take into account the following to speed up the validation process.

  • You have included local requirements.
  • Plans are labelled, drawn to scale, and detail is provided (such as the correct amount of windows or doors).
  • You have submitted existing and proposed plans.
  • A4 and A3 plans are preferred in .pdf format.
  • Please contact us if you are unclear about terminology such as "floor plan" and "elevation".
  • Send us two copies of your forms, plans and supporting documentation.

Location and block plan.

A planning application must include plans sufficient to describe the proposal. An example of the type of plans that might be required can be found below. You can purchase a Location plan and a Block plan from GetMapping. The quantity and type of plans vary depending on the application type.

We would welcome the completion and return of the Equalities Monitoring Form below. We are committed to fair treatment and equal access to our services. In order to ensure the effectiveness of service delivery, annual reviews are undertaken.
