Coach education and training

Many national sports coaching courses are held in and around the District throughout the year.  For more information about coaching courses, please visit the Sussex County Sports Partnership website.

Volunteer network

If you have an interest in sport and leisure and would like to volunteer to help out in related activities in your community, or would like to gain some experience in this field, we would love to hear from you.

Extended schools initiative

The extended school initiative provides a range of services and activities often beyond the school day to help meet the needs of its pupils, their families and the wider community, to maximise learning for all. Across the country many schools are already providing some extended services including adult education, study support, ICT facilities and community sports programmes. Schools and their partners can build on existing provision and consider what additional service or activities they might offer. There is no blueprint for the types of activities that schools might provide, or how they could be organised. Working with local partners, schools can develop as little or as much provision as they think suitable for their community.

Chichester District Council can support schools in accessing funding and setting up after school sporting/leisure opportunities.

Club accreditation

Sport England's Clubmark (safe, effective, child friendly) accreditation is a new nationally adopted set of standards for enabling national governing bodies of sport and their affiliated clubs to set and meet standards that will lead to better quality sports club provision for children and young people.

Chichester District Council's sports development team can help your club in gaining this accreditation.

Clubs that take up the challenge of developing their standards work towards Clubmark accreditation through achievement of national benchmarks in 4 key criteria laid down by Sport England:

  • Duty of care and child protection
  • Coaching and competition
  • Sports equity and ethics
  • Club management

So, what are the benefits?

  • Support from sports development professionals
  • Will be better organised and resourced as a club and able to further develop
  • Assistance with promotion of your local community
  • Help with advice and applying for grant aid
  • Priority for grant aid sources such as the Community Club development fund

Once attained, the Clubmark logo can be carried on any club literature and promotional materials which confirms your commitment to a safe child friendly junior section which will appeal to:

  • Local parents
  • Local school teachers
  • Local community groups
  • Funding agencies
  • Local authority sports development teams
  • Commercial sponsors
