Food Safety

The food that we eat is an essential part of creating and maintaining our health and wellbeing. Eating good food is also a highly pleasurable experience!

Chichester District is a source of fine food, both through its many restaurants and public houses, through the expected national food retailers and more unusual local specialist food suppliers. This includes a bi-weekly Farmers Market on alternative Fridays in Chichester and monthly Farmers Markets in Midhurst and Petworth.

Whilst eating food in Chichester District might be a pleasurable experience it must of course be safe to eat.  It is the responsibility of the Commercial and Public Safety Team to regularly inspect premises within the district to ensure that Food Safety standards, are maintained and improved to the highest possible level. Further details of inspections are available under 'Food Premises Inspections'.

We also investigate complaints about poor standards in food premises and about food which might be substandard either because it has gone off or contains something which shouldn't be in it. (See 'How to Complain about a Food Premises' and 'Foreign Objects in Food').
