Midhurst TIC has moved next doorIntroductionThe Midhurst Tourist Information Centre (TIC) has moved next door into Chichester District Council's area office. From today (Monday 12 March), residents and visitors can access council services and tourist information under one roof in North Street, Midhurst. In December, the council's Cabinet agreed to look into new ways of delivering tourist information in Midhurst. Officers are working with local businesses, residents and other key groups on the project. In the interim period, the Cabinet agreed that the TIC could move next door into the area office, making immediate savings. Officers are looking into three options on how Midhurst's TIC and its current building could be delivered in another way in the future. The council will be developing the options with key partners including:
The establishment of the South Downs National Park is an opportunity to attract more visitors to the area. The council wants to try and develop the TIC in the most effective way possible and deliver information in a way that people want to access it. It has been looking at the best way to facilitate this important service in the current economy. The council will be working with Metamorphosis to develop the best way to deliver tourist information in the area. This will include use of technology to deliver information to visitors, new ways of generating income towards covering the costs of the service, and generating ways to improve the service to visitors. Officers will look into the options and report back to the Cabinet by June 2012. Date: 12 March 2012 Reference: 3074 |
