Supporting 'real-life entrepreneurs'

Introduction

'Real-life entrepreneurs' are being given even more support in the Chichester District thanks to a new campaign.

Chichester District Council has signed up to the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) Real-Life Entrepreneur Campaign. The campaign acknowledges and supports the many thousands of hard-working small business owners who support the UK economy.

Cllr Myles Cullen (left), with FSB Chair Ann Swain and Director of Employment and Prosperity at Chichester District Council, Paul Over (right), sign the FSB Real Life Entrepreneur Certificate.

"We recognise that the wealth of the community is generated by its successful businesses," says Cllr Myles Cullen, Deputy Leader of Chichester District Council and Cabinet Member for Economy, Property and Tourism.

"We have been working hard with the FSB for a number of years to help businesses prosper in this difficult economic time. Signing up to the Real-Rife Entrepreneurs campaign is another step we are taking to support small businesses. We have already been recognised by the FSB for the work we have carried out so far. This includes receiving the FSB regional Small Business Friendly Award for Surrey and West Sussex and being the overall winner in this category for the South East of the country."

The FSB has recognised the work the council has carried out so far including:

  • the South Coast Design Forum, the creation of a design community now recognised as a leading authority in the design arena;
  • the Village Shop Grant Scheme, set up to ensure the survival of the district's village shops;
  • the Midhurst Vision Project, directed at regenerating Midhurst town centre and revitalising local retail shops; and
  • the Enabling Grant Scheme, to encourage businesses to set up a website and sell their products and services via the Internet.
