Empty Homes Assistance

If you own a house that has been empty for more than a year, and requires works to meet the Decent Homes Standard you can apply for financial assistance. The amount available is 50% of the cost of works, up to a maximum of £10,000. Conditions include:

  • works cannot be part of an insurance claim
  • the property must be at least 10 years old
  • works must be completed within 12 months of assistance being approved
  • following the works being done, we select the tenants for the next 10 years 

Conversion Assistance

This is available to owners of buildings that are going to be converted to provide additional living accommodation. For example, this could for changing a property from non-residential to residential use or converting a house into flats. The assistance is 50% of the cost of works, up to a maximum of £10,000. Conditions include:

  • you must receive a number of quotations for the works, and carry out the work in line with the quotations
  • you must have the assistance approved before works are started
  • you must ensure that all homes created meet the Decent Homes Standard
  • following the works being done, we select the tenants for the next 10 years
