Pagham to East Head Draft Coastal Defence Strategy – Consultation now closed

Consultation on the above strategy closed at the end of August 2008. The general public have had their say on our recommended management options for each of the coastal units between Pagham Harbour and East Head. These responses are now being considered by the Project Team before any management options are adopted. A final strategy will be prepared after the options outlined in the published documents and amended by consultation have been approved and adopted by the operating authorities.

Although the consultation is closed, the documents together with the Consultation Report are available from the Environment Agency's website.

Seawall repairs West Beach, Selsey

Contractors Dean & Dyball Civil Engineering Limited have begun work on essential repairs to the seawall at Clayton Road, Selsey, which was undermined and collapsed during a storm early last year.

Emergency works were carried out by the Council to stabilise the frontage in the short term but this new contract involves the permanent rebuilding of both the lower and upper parts of the sea wall to prevent further erosion or loss of property. The £500,000 funding for the scheme comes from the central government budget, allocated via the Environment Agency.

The contract includes investigation and repair to adjoining lengths of seawall & apron together with rebuilding groynes, and encasement of lower wave wall where it is showing signs of abrasion and is estimated for completion in March 2009.
