Gear up for Bike Week

Introduction

Budding cyclists of all ages in the Chichester District are invited to take part in Bike Week, from Saturday 16 to Sunday 24 June.


Bike Week is the UK's largest mass-participation cycling event with activities happening up and down the country.

In the Chichester District, there's plenty on offer, including:

  • a one stop shop for cyclists on Friday 22 June from 7.30am to 10am at The Cross, Chichester, including free bike doctor check-ups, free bike security marking, free fruit bags from Natures Way Food and water from Windsor Water, free bike goodies and information on cycle training and bike routes. You can also enter a free national prize draw to win a holiday or one of five cycle computers. The event is being held in partnership with West Sussex County Council;
  • Pedal to Prayers events throughout the summer including free bike safety checks. These take place on 10 June at St Paul's Church in Chichester, on 24 June at Revelation Church in Chichester and on 8 July at St Richard's Church in Chichester; and
  • guided bike ride from Chichester to Bosham on Saturday 23 June. Meet at 3pm at Westgate Leisure Chichester. The family friendly ride will finish by 5.30pm and will be along mainly quiet lanes.

Local schools have also been invited to take part in Bike Week by holding a 'Bling Your Bike' competition. There will be prizes for the best three decorated bikes. The prizes have been donated by the county council.

Councillor John Connor, Cabinet Member for Environment at Chichester District Council, says: "If you are thinking about getting on your bike, whether it is for the first time or to rediscover the benefits of cycling, then Bike Week is the perfect time to start. We want to encourage as many people as possible get on their bikes. Cycling will give your health a boost and it is good for the environment. There will be lots of information available to help you on your way including maps and cycling tips."
