Residents are being asked for their views on plans for a new play area in Priory Park, Chichester.
Five contractors have submitted designs for the project to Chichester District Council, and work is set to begin in the next few months. A consultation on the designs will take place between Monday 11 January and Saturday 23 January.
The work will cost in the region of £150,000 and will be funded by money from the Big Lottery Play Programme and Section 106 funding (money put aside for community projects when developers gain planning permission). The project also involves the addition of a small play area in the New Park Road recreation ground when the existing Jubilee play area is removed.
From Monday 11 January the five proposals will be available to view on the Council website and visitors to the site can also leave comments. A display showing the park designs will also be in the reception area of the Council offices in East Pallant, where residents can comment by using an electronic information point. These features will be available for two weeks before the consultation period culminates with a chance to meet Play Development Officer, Lisa Rumbold at Westgate Leisure Chichester on Saturday 23 January from 10am – 2pm.
Feedback from the public, together with consultations with local schools, the Chichester District Play Partnership and the Friends of Priory Park will then be considered. The chosen design will be announced at the beginning of February, with work due to start in April.
Councillor Nick Thomas, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Sport at Chichester District Council says: "Each of the five proposals look stunning and have their own unique merits. Our aim is to choose a design that provides accessibility for every child, is interesting, challenging and caters for a wide age range. The new play area will ensure the park's status as one of the major attractions in Chichester."
