Chichester District Council is trialling the new Christmas tree recycling service in January 2019 in the following locations:

  • Petworth - Pound Street car park - Friday 4 January - 9am to 11am

  • Southbourne - Bourne Community College car park - Saturday 5 January - 9am to 11am

  • Selsey - East Beach car park - Monday 7 January - 9am to 11am

The service is free and residents dropping off trees will be given the chance to take up a special offer for Garden Recycling Service membership.

Residents should make sure that all decorations have been removed from their tree before bringing it along to one of the drop off points.

Alternatively, residents that subscribe to the council's Garden Recycling service can leave their real Christmas trees out with their collection to be recycled.

Households across Chichester District are being encouraged to make a note of any changes to their waste and recycling collections over the festive period.

The Garden Recycling Service will stop over Christmas and New Year from Friday 21 December and will start again on Monday 7 January.

Collection days will return to normal from Monday 14 January 2019. Residents can download and print out their own personalised waste, recycling and garden recycling collection dates.

Any extra waste from the holiday period will be picked up by collection crews on the first collection after Christmas.

If residents have any extra recycling, they need to ensure that it is kept clean, dry and loose and placed next to their recycling bin on the day of collection.

"We are really pleased to be able to launch our new Christmas tree recycling service," says Councillor Roger Barrow, Cabinet Member for Residents Services at Chichester District Council. "Over Christmas we tend to generate more waste than usual and so we want to make sure that residents recycle as much as possible at this time of year. We hope that the new Christmas tree drop off points will make a difference and make it easier for residents to recycle their trees."

Residents can find more advice on the  webpage.
