It is forecast that the project, based in Terminus Road, Chichester, could create around 275 new jobs every three years and contribute to an improvement in business survival rates. It is expected to be completed in December this year.

The project will offer businesses flexible accommodation, with the ability to rent space for just two weeks. The aim is to help businesses access the support that they need and will also include working with local education providers and business support groups to offer support and mentoring schemes.

Councillor Gillian Keegan, Cabinet Member for Commercial Services at Chichester District Council, says: "This dedicated, modern facility will enable businesses to grow and flourish, helping to create new, high quality jobs for local people.

"We want to encourage economic growth in the district and this project is a major part of the council's encouragement of local business development. It will give a real boost to businesses over the next few years, which will be of real and lasting value in our area."

The council's research shows that the area is in need of a new high quality development where new businesses can rent space. Basepoint has been chosen to work in partnership with the council and the company will manage the facility once it opens.

"The centre will focus on the needs of small, medium and start-up businesses, with flexible easy-in, easy-out terms. Other benefits will include on-site management, serviced meeting rooms, high-speed internet access, free parking and business training and coaching.

"We have been looking forward to this exciting opportunity for some time and we are delighted to be part of an initiative to help develop a base for businesses and entrepreneurs to ensure the areas business community succeeds long into the future," says Brian Andrews, Managing Director of Basepoint Centres Ltd.

Neilcott Construction Ltd, is the main contractor for the project. Its Regional Director, Pat Hughes, says: "Neilcott is delighted to be working in partnership with Chichester District Council on this important project. It will bring dedicated, modern facilities that will enable businesses to grow and flourish, helping to create new, high quality jobs for local people. We are also keen to ensure that the construction process provides opportunities for local employment and skills development."

BAQUS Construction and Property Consultancy is the Employer's Agent on the new scheme and will be engaging and working with local businesses and tradesman on this project.

Natasha Webley, of BAQUS, says: "BAQUS is pleased to be working as the Employer's Agent for Chichester District Council on this exciting project, creating start up office and workshop facilities for local businesses and entrepreneurs in Chichester."

Eighty-two business units ranging from 150 to 700 square feet will be offered across three buildings, with the unique space offering flexible rental terms. The development will offer office suites, workshop units and shared workspaces, along with dedicated car parking on a 1.75 acre site.

Flexible work spaces encourage new talent and job growth, as well as significantly contributing to the local economy.
